    Question merging stroke with shape?

    My first post!

I'm new to xara, i really like what i'm seeing after 3 hours of playing with it. I'm trying to do a vectorial metalic logo. I noticed i can't use bevel and 3d to make it, so i'm jost going trough a trial and error process here, and the problem is that i can't seem to find how to merge the stroke of a shape in the shape to make a bigger shape :>.

Anyone can give me a hand on this one, promisse to post my "artwork" here after doing it.

    Hi
Not 100% sure what you mean so I've drawn a freehand shape and put a blue outline around it, turn the blue outline black and you have a shape with an outline which can be made thicker and so increase the size of the shape or of course you can detach the outline.
Is number three what you mean, ie making the shape bigger by increasing the outline width?

    Welcome to TalkGraphics

You can create a stoked line like the ones Derek has drawn.

Convert the outline to shape (Arrange > Convert Line to Shape).

Arrange > Break Shapes - Delete the smaller object (the one selected after the break shapes operation).

Check out the Contour tool also. I think you can use this for what you're asking

draw your shape. Right click any colour on the colour line which will give you a, by default, .5pt outline. Find your 'set line width' drop down on the main toolbar usually across the top of your screen to adjust the line thickness. You can also adjust the shape of the line (stroke) and or choose a brush for the outline. Right clicking on the hatched square on the left hand end of the colour line will remove the outline, left clicking on the hatched square will remove the fill. Right clicking any colour will change the line colour and left clicking will change the fill colour

    Try exporting as PDF 1.7

Imports into Illy CS3 fine here.

If you plan to export to .ai/.eps/or .pdf remember that Xara supports many transparency types that no other program is capable of recreating.

This means you must limit your drawing to flat mix transparency or linear mix transparency when exporting to the above mentioned formats.
