Updated trial versions of Pro 5.1 and Xtreme 5.1

Updated trial versions of Pro 5.1 and Xtreme 5.1 are now on the website at www.xara.com/downloads/xtreme/. This is version 5.1.0.9131 and is close to the version we will use for the CDs in just a few days. So please can everyone update to this version and let us know if you find any new problems. You’ll need to uninstall your current 5.1 trial first, before installing the new trial.

Here’s a brief summary of the changes and fixes included in this update.

Layers & Object Gallery
- Objects on guide layer now browsable (Pro only)
- Compatibility with animation docs improved.
- Pages and Layers buttons now auto select the current page/layer
- More options added to right click context menu
- When the “same layers on all pages” option is selected (Options, Page Size tab), a warning is now shown when deleting layers in multi-page documents to make sure the user realises that layers will be deleted from all pages.
Fixes:
- docking object gallery to the left causes all icons to change to black squares
- AV when closing doc with ObjectGallery open
- Object gallery fails to update when ctrl tabbing between documents
- Empty popup thumbnail in object gallery
- Delay in preview updating in OG when altering objects color

Photo Related
- Mask shapes can now be solid dragged and resized
- Levels tool Auto feature now works on Photo Groups
Fixes:
- Memory leak when moving through photos with Next/Previous buttons
- Photo cropping doesn't update text repelling in all cases
- Levels Auto button unreliable on feathered photos
- Inconsistent behaviour when using 'copy using mask'

Misc Bug-fixes
- Crash xara exporting objects from name gallery with a '.' in their name
- Extruded quickshape renders incorrectly
- LiveEffects cannot be made repelling/non-repelling
- Pasting mask from one instance of xtreme into another can lead to AV
- Error when quitting with shape on clipboard
- Temp files being left behind after import/export
- Many other fixes and minor changes.
- Fails to import PDF files with non-ascii filenames

Curtis as long as you are installing on the same machine I believe it does not affect the limit.

Will installing this mean I'll have to re set all my custom settings? and then do it again when the Cds arrive?

I have custom toolbars, and custom files in my designs gallery, and I have made changes using XaReg.

Also does this fix this bug?

I think you'll have to redo all the custom settings and XaReg settings - I had to, but I uninstalled the older version first. I'm not sure if you can install the update without uninstalling first.

I don't know about the bug you mentioned, though. It did fix the bevels on groups bug I ran into.

I had to remove the older version of Pro 5.1 using add/remove programmes before installing this one. To round it all of after registering the older version the new one wouldn't. I had admin rights and tried it both with my firewall enabled and un-enabled still couldn't. Put a ticket in.

Looks like I am being silly as it states that the serial number will be included on the CD case. If that's the case.

Just as a reassurance to others, here I've had none of Albacore's difficulties - uninstalled old 5.1 via Control Panel, ran the new installer EXE, was prompted for registration code (as well as being told that I'd 9 days left at that point, which I didn't expect since Xara was already fully-registered at that point), and all seems fine since. That's WinXP Home SP2, with Norton Internet Security 2009 AV/firewall all left untouched throughout.

I had minimal difficulties with this. I uninstalled like the notes said (through the control panel as there was no uninstall option in the start menu folder), and installed the new version.

I had to try to activate it three times before it actually worked. The first two times after entering the registration code it said "please wait" and then drove both of my CPU's to 100% and seemed to hang, forcing me to kill it after about 5 minutes.

After those failed attempts I rebooted and tried again and it worked right away.

I had no problems at all .... Uninstalled, reinstalled, entered registration code and activated ..... Not one single hiccup.

Smooth sailing here on my end.

First I backed up my original Xtreme Pro 5.1 settings using XaReg 1.0.2.0. Uninstalled, reinstalled and reactivated XXP 5.1.0.9131 per the instructions. The entire process completed without a hitch. Restored my settings previously saved using XaReg. Moved my templates and plug-ins to the proper folders and I'm back in action and raring to go.
