Interesting, as always, Rich. The first one reminds me of the flying sports thing from the Harry Potter books. It was a flying golden orb or something opposing teams whacked around while riding brooms. Awww, wait a minute let me do some quick research...

OK. The thing I'm thinking of is the 'Golden Snitch' whose capture is the ultimate goal of the players of the game, 'Quidditch'. Sorry, it's been a while since I read the books. Details were a bit fuzzy.
