In the background and barely visible is the wall paper, which is a drawing of a plastic chicken duplicated via the blend tool - plastic chicken wall paper was all the rage in the 14th century. The sign on the wall advertises 'unexpected vacancies due to plague', which was most likely popular as well and 'flappy' the frog, a winged dragon frog is sitting on the back of the chair.
I enjoy hidden detail even if only I know it's there, thanks for noticing.
Heres a picture I extracted 'flappy' from. This was taken before it grew wings and I left the man riding him out as that was just silly.

Don't be stupid, chickens hadn't been invented in the 14th century!

I did the same as Bob, but used the levels tool to lighten the picture. I just had to know what the chickens were doing in there.

I think you'll find that was Turkeys, chickens and the depiction of same as wall decorations came over with the Romans though the frivolous depiction of poultry was banned by the Normans after the invasion and it was two hundred years before it regained popularity as a subject for wall decoration.

I'm surprised that ducks haven't been mentioned.
