My guess is that your colour pallet is only set to display 256 colours. I don't use painter, but this could either be a display setting on your computer, or painters pallette, or I could be completely wrong..

Hi,
1. Close Painter IX.
2. It looks like you're a Windows user. If so, go to Start > Control Panel > Display. The Display Properties dialog box opens.
3. Click the Settings tab.
4. In the lower right corner of the Display Properties dialog box, below Color Quality, set your screen colors to 24 bit or higher. In WinXP Home, the appropriate setting is Highest (32 bit).
5. Launch Painter IX and the interface should now look as expected.
