Photoshop cs9? Six versions ahead of the rest of us!

Think of the picture like this - it's either a colour picture with the colour removed, or a black and white picture with colour added. Most likely the first.

Now think of the black and white version sitting on a layer behind a colour image with a mask..

If you want to create multiple areas of colour, here's a way..

Load the colour image. Copy it's layer as many times as you want coloured areas.

select the bottom coloured layer and create a B&W adjustment layer (Layer->New Adjustment Layer-> B&W..

You now have a black and white image sitting in the adjustment layer.

Turn off the visibility of all layers except the adjustment layer - you should see a B&W picture.

Now, turn on the visibility of a copied layer - you see colour.

Select the copied layer that you are looking at in colour.

Select the first area you want colourised. Invert the selection, then cut.

You now have that area sitting over a B&W background.

    Now repeat..

Hi guys, just incase anyone else would like to achieve the same effect here's a nice idiot proof way of doing it

    1. Bring in the image you want to change
    2. Right click on it and duplicate it
    3. Stay on the highlighted layer and click on, Image, Adjustments, Desaturate
and the layer will go black & white
    4. Click on the Eraser tool and just rub over the image where you want colour

    Easy peesy,
