Cutout text

I was wondering if there was an easy way to split a text cutout
into two halves- top and bottom. I've seen this in flash animations
where the two halves come in from different side and join in the middle.

Yes that's the effect I'm looking for.
How do you split the text like that?

Create your text in the box, group it.
Draw your line.
Select both.
Arrange - Combine Shapes - Slice.
Done.
