    Default Why in Pro can't I: ctrl-w

Highlight an item in the bitmap gallery, hit the delete key, and have the thing disappear?

Have several drawings open, and successfully ctrl-tab to switch between them, but when I'm ready to close one of them, ctrl-w doesn't close it, but displays the apparently hardwired "import from web" box?

Isn't ctrl-w standard to close subwindows in most/all windows apps?

    Thanks for any insight.

ps- ctrl-w in windows explorer closes it, ctrl-w in Word closes the active open document. ctrl-w in photoshop closes the active open document. i can go on.... I use it all the time.

Tallis, I've never heard of using ctrl-w to close a windows. It's always been F4 as far back as Windows 3.0 and 3.1

    Microsoft Internet Explorer navigation
CTRL+W (Close the current IE window)

    Windows XP General keyboard shortcuts
ALT+F4 (Close the active item, or quit the active program)
F4 key (Display the Address bar list in My Computer or Windows Explorer or Windows Internet Explorer)
CTRL+W (Close the current Windows Explorer window)

Windows XP Dialog box keyboard shortcuts
F4 key (Display the items in the active list)

Microsoft Management Console (MMC) main window keyboard shortcuts
    CTRL+W (Open a new window)
    ALT+F4 (Close the console)

Read abt other keyboard shortcuts available in Windows XP

    Cheers, Anders

    Afaik, CTRL+W is a windows-only shortcut.
I dunno exactly when it was added, but it's present in win98. I use it to close IE windows and Explorer windows

ALT+F4 can do this too, but the combo is not handy ( for people with short fingers.

I too find it useful to have a shortcut for these things; not necessarily a windows shortcut.

ALT+F4 closes an entire application, not a subwindow, unless I stand to be corrected. I'm just talking about closing docs within a program.

All other Win shortcuts can be read via the link I gave you in my post. For instance:
CTRL+F4 (Close the active document in programs that enable you to have multiple documents open simultaneously)

    Good luck!

    Anders...

Thanks for the link. There is a ton of useful information there.

For the closing of windows, however, I don't find Ctrl-F4 to be as convenient as just clicking on the "x".

Indeed, although for IE and windows explorer windows, it doesn't matter which one you choose
