Brush problem solved, I think

Hey,
Just wanted to share what I ended up with in the way of a brush that I could later convert to a shape, for anyone who's interested. Also I've included some other brushes I made while experimenting. No feathering this time to cause distortion.

I think the trick with this kind of brush is to keep the slice thin like you have done so it keeps its fill when you go around corners.
