Hi people!
Yesterday I have tried to test my new scanner and casually I found a very interesting graphic technique for XaraX/Xtreme. Here is a sample. By the way, I used only one scanned image with a simple pencil hatching.
How about it?

Brilliantly simple and beautiful!
Alexander, I really like what you've done/discovered.
To make sure I understand how you colored your Xara drawings
with the pencil hatch, did you ...
- Scan the pencil hatch at a higher DPI (such as 300), so that as
it is used/stretched on the shapes, the reuslt will be sharper ?
- Make bitmap copies of the pencil hatch and colorize them (using
a filter in Xtreme or a different software) ?
- Last, use bitmap fills of these re-colored bitmap copies on your
vector shapes ?
Thank you !
Ken
Even more easier, Ken!
Yes, I use a bitmap fill (scanned with 300 dpi or higher), but I put it onto shapes without re-coloring(!!!). Here is my step-by-step:
1. Draw your sketch and apply the flat fills (for the first imagination)
2. Select the first shape which you want to fill with scanned hatch and apply
it as a bitmap fill. Most probably you'll need to resize and recolor this texture.
3. Drag the handles with the Fill Tool as you want and click to the start/edge point of fill and select the color. Ctrl+C
4. Select the next object and press Ctrl+Shift+A (to paste attributes). Change the color and direction of filling handles (to get a more realistic pencil effect).
That's all ;-) Also you're can play with transparencies, try to use stained glass mode etc.

Great technique Alexander ... thanks for sharing!
Thank you, sir, for the details on your process.
If that's you in your pic playing the harmonica and ukulele,
I'm impressed. These are 2 instruments I've fiddled with but
never developed much skill in, especially playing both at the
same time.
Keep up the great work !

Great technique, Alexander.
Another way to do this is to fill the shape with the crayon hatching, then place the same shape below with a fill. Apply a Bleach transparency to the hatched bitmap. The color shows behind the black hatching but the white remains white.

Nice variation, Gary. Thank you ! -- Ken
Alexander,
That is very creative! Very cool! Thanks for sharing how you did it.
