Unhappy Xara X1 tablet problem ...

    Hello,

I'm new at this forum, I like the speed of Xara X1, i am searching for a vector graphics software that fits me, and i did think that i've found it, but:

With my tablet i can draw, but the pressure don't do nothing
is terrible because to me, the easyness of the tablet to draw is 50%
and the pressure of the pen is 50% to make a happy day of draw
(it's really important the pressure to me ).

Something has the same problem, workaround, something i've doing wrong?

    1. I did read the help with Xara X1 and search 'tablet' but modifiyng the
pressure at transparency to 50-200% and save, and others doesn't work for me

    2. I already used the pressure of the tablet with:
Gimp, Pixia, openCanvas, Freehand MX, Flash MX, Dogwaffle, Canvas X, and more.

    3. My tablet is: Genius MousePen 8x6

I really like Xara X1, it's a shame that doesn't work for me
    any help is usefull

    Bye
    Thanks in advance.

I do not get a chance to play with my tablet as much as I should. but I do know that you should be using the freehand and brush tool? Are you using that tool?

    Hello Raziel6969,

John's right....you need to use the freehand tool but I think it is also dependant on which brush you use. For example, I have a Wacom and the ammount of pressure makes no difference if I use the 'Normal-Line' to create an image. However, change to a different brush like 'chalk' 'crayon' or 'van gogh' and I can see a marked difference in the stoke when I apply pressure on the pen. Hope this helps .

    Christopher.

    Hey Chris,

You just reminded me... the brush tool is working properly, it is using the default brush which is constant. Just changing to any other "nib" should give you a preasure profile. Then it is just a question of picking out the "nib" you want and adjusting the "size" to fit your hand.

Question Re: Xara X1 tablet problem ...

    Hello again,

I did tried with the last Trial: Xara X1 v1.1D DL
and the pressure sensivity doesn't work for me

I'm gonna describe all the steps to see the effect:
    1. start Xara X1
    2. appears by default with: "Freehand and Brush Tool F3"
and draw some lines with the tablet, and work ok.
    3. choose 'Chalk' from Brush selection, and draw with
different levels of pressure, but the line is constant

    4. choose at 'Edit Brush', Scaling, Pressure 1-100%, and save
draw, but the line is constant
    5. same as 4. but 'save as new' with the title 'New Brush'
select 'New Brush' from Brush selection, but the line is constant

Note: i start 'openCanvas 406' to see if there is a hardware problem
but with oC all work OK!

    It's incompatible my tablet?
    what else i can do?
(I really want to make it work with Xara X1)

    Bye

    hi Raziel6969,

It is not the brush so much as the "profile". A constant profile is like drawing with a ballpoint pen. Try another profile... that should work...

Custom profiles generated with a graphics tablet are only displayed as were inputted if the profile is set to "constant" in the list of pre-set profiles.

Exclamation Re: Xara X1 tablet problem ...

If your tablet works with other programs, then it should also work in Xara. But be aware that pressure sensitivity only works with brushes.

My way of making a pressure sensitve brush:

1 create a dot by making a circle and keep it selected
2 choose the freehand tool (F3)
3 In the tool infobar press "create brush"
4 In your Line gallery you should see a new brush. Select it and choose Edit Brush.
5 In the editing dialogue set the appropriate spacing, so that the dots look like one solid line. Next move to the tab "Scaling". Now, make sure that the slider pressure has a setting different than 100-100 %.

Your new brush should finally work now!

!! But, it's still an ommission that the default strokes aren't pressure sensitive. I hope that that will be resolved in the next version. If not, than Xara won't be on my wishlist anymore.

sorry If I misled anyone. I use my tablet at work mostly for slicing and dicing a bitmap or two. Do not use it as much as I should... It is easier to draw with the mouse for my most of the time...
