Why does Xara add layers when you import clipart into it?

I rarely use clipart, but was doing a project where I imported quite a few of them. Well! each one I imported had a:
    1. A new layer
    2. Desktop layer
    3. Guide layer
    4. Grid layer

It was extremely irritating when went to draw an object which I wanted to be on top of one of the clipart objects only to find it was behind by 30 or more layers.

Does the creation of all there new layers serve a good purpose?

    Hi Judi,

I rarely use clipart, but when I have some only go into a layer called clipart and others create the layers you mentioned.

I believe it all depends on who created the clipart and the layers they used.

It seems that Klaus has a better answer to your question than I did.

Thanks Klaus I never even thought about it being an option. Still don't know why anyone would want all those automatic layers though.

Soquilli you are right it does depend on the file type. I was importing .cmx files from a Corel Draw CD.

    Thank you,
    Judi

Christine had some good reasons for the clipart layers in this thread.

Thanks Mickie, she is right not all clipart comes in grouped and of course always lands on top of what you already have.
