It has been so quiet around here.

Here is a picture that I put together with Xara X. It started as two photos taken with different exposure settings. I combined the two to get the following result.

What a stunning photograph(s). It inspired me to recreate the rose in vector. It was a great subject. Thanks for the inspiration.

Here's a mini Tut. Layers are essential as it can become very difficult to pick individual petals otherwise. I used about 6.

The background is from the Clip art / Photos1/ Brain coral folder. I used the colour picker extensively throughout recreating the rose and it amazed me how dark certain parts of the rose looked on a white background and it wasn't until a real dark background was added that the dark areas lightened up. Rose without background attached.

I very rarely use the clip veiw, but it's excellent where you need to apply feathering that needs to extend to or beyond the edge of a shape.

Very illuminating ... I would never have thought of using the clip view in that way. It all sounds so simple when someone explains it ... Except you still have to "see" where to put those shadows. Thanks.

I'm thrilled that my little exercise gave you some inspiration. Yours encourages me to look at my photos as templates to build from. Cool!
