The building I've attached was designed and modelled in SketchUp. The lower two stories are an existing building and I was designing the upper three stories as an addition. The large tower-like elements relate to a structural requirement of needing to transfer the new shear forces down to the ground without imposing such loads on the existing building's columns. Anyways...

The SketchUp export was brought into Xara X where I added the trees and created the vignete view.

SketchUp is an amazing modeler. I very much enjoy using it.

    Regards, Ross

Steve - I actually haven't done all that much work in SketchUp (yet). The thing about the program is it has a very intuitive user interface that is very easy to learn/use. Many users who come from backgrounds with other modellers are using SketchUp to quickly rough up their models then export to their regular modeling software for finishing up.

Here's a link to the SketchUp gallery if anyone is interested in seeing some further SketchUp examples: Visit the gallery
Also I'd highly recommend watching a few of the online training movies to get a quick intro to how the program works. (The training movies are every bit as good as the Xara X ones --- more software companies should be doing the little movie thing!).

I love the trees you did in Xara.I am curious about the x-braces on the middle two floors. Are they part of the support structure? Also, the large support columns,do they run into the building and meet in the middle? At one time many moons ago I wanted to be an architect so building design still intrests me and I can't say that I have ever seen a design like this one you have done.

Ya i like that too Ross, great job.

I've been reading up on that app. I think it has a very intuitive interface. They've made the basic functions very natural to use.

Dan -- That's a nice compliment - I think?? Kinda depends on how much SketchUp work you've seen.

I took it as a compliment. Thanks!

I see the SketchUp gallery I linked to above seems to be down at the moment. It has some very nice SketchUp work.
