I just installed a Scanjet 5P on my home system since my CXII is out of commission. Works great with my Adaptec cards on both work and home systems w/W2K. Are you using the HP cards that came with the scanner? If so you might invest in an Adaptec 2906. Has the 25 pin external connector.

W2K is fine by me for now. I think the XP interface looks like it was done by a carnival ride designer. Garish and very childish colors.

I run Win ME and have a scsi card for my AGFA Studioscan IIsi scanner. The scsi card is a Adaptec 2910 (PCI) and it works fine. Perhaps your problems with drivers relate to an obscure card?? Have you contacted its manufacturer?
