appears to me your problem might come from one of the following:

    01. a bad RAM chip on a graphic card (but then it wouldn't be on all machines)
    02. you are living in a certain distance of a radar unit
    03. you are living in a certain distance of a railroad - the power supply is incredibly strong even if you are 900 feet away.

A friend of mine is living close to a railroad: every time a train passes by his screen starts pumping like hell and then disappears. Both his worls - Win and Mac - are affected.

Oh, I forgot to mention a radio or mobile phone broadcast antenna in your area - they can be miles away from you but still cause a lot of hassle.

Neaest railway half a mile or so away.
Not bad ram as, as you say it's all machines and it appears, not just mine.
I'm beginning to think I just have to put up with it.

    Derek,

Windows 98 threatens to do the same thing but just gives one flicker as you take the pointer across the menu border. Win XP must trigger more refreshes during this event hence the flickering.

That's another bux fix the the, dare I mention it, next release!

A week or so has gone by since i first posted my, and it seems others, problem with the file menu in xara X, full screen mode with winXP pro.
I had been using it all week but had mainly stuck to the normal mode. today i ventured into full screen mode and found that the juddering of the file menu had gone and it was as solid as a rock.
All that has been done to the pc other than normal useage of the instlled software, (ie. no installations or removals), was to defragment but this is done regularly anyhow.
I see this as more of a puzzle than the original problem.
    Any suggestions.
