Xara Light Grey (old)
Xara Dark Grey (new)

"Second class fairway is better than first class rough!"
I have started a thread asking about which version to buy. I am only playing with the trial version but have to say I do not like the dark version. I am having trouble seeing the icons on the dark gray, all the text in the menu's is way too small and the drop down menu's text is also way to small. I have set my screen resolution to the way that best suits my eyes, but the new version is not respecting that.
Used to have the same problems with programers that designed programs that were too high for my screen, (eg) want to change your options in some programs, a window opens up that lets you change your options but you can not scroll down to click okay. It's just not there. The new version 6 with the small fonts is basically the same. Some programer with great eyes designing something for him and his computer with out seeing it from other eyes. Is this not why everybody says to have more than one browser in you computer to check your web sites??????????????........frank
I can only agree - the menu font is way too small.

I've voted for the standard Windows version(*), although I'm not averse to a dark grey interface in general. The one in Lightroom seems clearer, and comparing them I think it's because the Xara dark grey is a little too light and the icons are a bit too fussy even though they are larger than the "standard" versions. Less colours for the icons might help.
I note that the registry entry that gets changed is Options|Workspace|DefaultSkinName, being XARADARK for the grey skin and blank for the Windows version, so I guess the developers were thinking of having alternative skins.
The XARADARK skin is defined in xaradark_theme.xml and xaradark.cjstyles, the latter of which is an executable (MZ at the beginning) and is based on Microsoft's Zune Style, another dark grey skin for XP. From the [Documentation] secction:
DisplayName = Magix Style
Description = Based on Zune Style
Copyright = Copyright 2010 Magix AG
Author = Alexander Weitling
Company = Magix AG
Version = 1.0
* I believe the standard Windows version should always be provided for accessibility reasons.
DEFINITLY THE LIGHT GRAY WITH THE OLD ICONS!!!!!! PLEASE SWITCH THEM BACK! OR GIVE ME THE CHOICE TO! I WOULD NOT HAVE UPGRADED IF I KNEW THE NEW LAYOUT! IT LOOKS LIKE REALLY BAD TECHNO AND TRIED TO HARD TO MAKE THE ICONS LOOK GOOD I LOVE XARA FROM DAY 1 WAY BACK... I NEVER HAD ANY BAD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT XARA TILL NOW WITH THE NEW LAYOUT!
