It's a horrible way to code but it ensures everything is WYSIWYG.

There is better ways to do it but we don't currently have the manpower to rewrite the entire HTML filter. It is on our list to do but keeping in mind the idea of Xara isn't to produce editable HTML code. Just code that works (not nicely.. but works still).

Rob, your honesty is showing again.

Some time back reviewers of v6 were very scathing of the HTML Xara generated. I have been following the small changes made across the years that do little.
I have suggested adding a class for each object that shows which layer it is on. To assist debugging alone, this would be worth it.
Text alignment is another ongoing issue that disproves Xara's WYSIWYG mantra.

I appreciate it is a big push to separate content from behaviour but that is the direction of travel you need to follow.

It's also hard to market. If we spend all our time on making the HTML nice, it means we're spending no times on making new features which isn't very saleable.

Ofc long term it's much better and we can develop better features but not my call to make unfortunately.
