The browser viewport size (css size) is not the same as the device size in pixels. Browser window sizes are 'virtual' and not the same as the pixel size of the display. In the past they used to be equivalent, .....

You'll see from the link that I sent you that the smallest width currently used is 320.

well . ... was just using my phone as a means to TEST the process
and as I have a samsung 8+with SUPER hi res
(as are most smartphones)
the 'logic' was not logical
it did not work at 800
but does work at 480
and my main resolution is 1000 (my bad -- thought higher in OP)
so from what I think I learned
XARA make the cross over at about 1/2 between the 2 pages
anyway
at 480 -- can now see on my cell
again
