And if anything was more calculated to get me searching for hacked copies or keygens, I can't think of it.

Don't go there - therein madness lies!

you could try blocking it in a firewall, unless you need continual web access

Thanks. I never thought of that.

I created an Outbound rule based on PhotoGraphicDesigner.exe and that appears to work. No more message repeatedly touting the update service.

Bonus: it also blocks the "Would you like [insert name of other program I don't want]?" pop-ups.

In Xara, going Help | Check for updates, it now comes back with "You need to be online to use this feature."

    Thank you again.

I have done this also for Designer Pro 16.2 and it worked there as well.

I am just hoping that Designer Pro does not need not phone home on a monthly basis in order to validate the licence.

it will need to verify sooner or later I think, but you should be able to let it through and then block it again when it does

You do have a point up to a point?! But, either way, it's madness. Something like this would drive me bonkers! I just stopped using Xara completely. Nagging to me is pointless, but sooner or later there's only so you can put up with.

Sooner, or later there's got to be a breaking point... or as some say a cracking point, which makes all the nagging 100% useless and detrimental to the bottom line.
