You're right..I meant to say that it is Fireworks "default" one.

I wonder if PNG is a better option than the old TIFFs for printing and for files exchange.

Since its compression is lossles (at least this is what I read somewhere...) and its size is smaller, why do we keep on using tiffs?

Yeah, it is a GREAT nuisance that we can't use 8-bit transparent PNGs on our web pages, owing to IE not handling that. And about 90% of surfers now use IE - Netscape and the others don't count anymore.

PNG is RGB only, not CMYK - which is why we keep on using TIFF for printing.

But we can! IE supports transparency in both 4 and 8 bit PNGs (I've been using them for years). Personally, I find Netscape 4's failure to do likewise far more limiting than IE's current failure to support True Colour + Alpha, which tends to produce file sizes I can't justify on my sites for most purposes.

Ahh, the apps vs. PS!! I love it. If there is an app that gets next to PS here, it's PhotoImpact. It saves and writes .psd and is a powerful app. Xara X, yes, I've messed around with this app. It's cool, but it's no PS!!
