Well, I can't say I've ever had that much trouble with WindowsXP, at least until I installed a new 256 MB SD-RAM stick. Then everything seemed to just get slower O..o
Ahh well, I'm back to 2000, which is pretty much like a rock now... Maybe if 2000 crashes severely, I'll give XP another try, but for now, I'm quite happy.
I wonder how long this thread is going to be
windows xp appears to be much better as far as stability goes (compared to what I was using ... win98)
Just an idea about the Ram , I read if they are different brands or are numbered as different speed ( 100 or 133) then they might cause problems ...but who knows

forgot to add...when i put in a dodgy cd it [the os] still turns into a 386 with 640k of ram.
otherwise surprisingly stable
My record up-time on Xp is now 2 weeks and 4 days, compared to a max of about 2 on 98.
There is no performance degradation, no crashes, and the only reason I rebooted after 2 weeks and 4 days was because of a hardware installation.
Very stable OS in my experience, as was Win2k. The 9x line is bad, too much DOS in it

Girls & guys,
pls drop me a line as soon as XP professional
01. is as fast as Windows 2000 Professional
02. is still up and running without any crash after 14 months - this is my benchmark with the 4 systems on our LAN over here.

OT somewhat but still amusing
Techweb news item:
The University of North Carolina has finally found a network server that, although missing for four years, hasn't missed a packet in all that time. Try as they might, university administrators couldn't find the server. Working with Novell Inc. (stock: NOVL), IT workers tracked it down by meticulously following cable until they literally ran into a wall. The server had been mistakenly sealed behind drywall by maintenance workers.
