Okay, I feel really ignorant here, but how do you make a 3D chessboard? Is it a clone, blend, and skew?

Can I use the mold tool on a blended image?
Is there a tutorial on envelopes that might prove helpful? Thanks, Richard!

I also have told you the wrong tool, it is the Mould tool but the use of envelopes is correct.
I'm not sure where the tutorial is for it's use but if you put a search in for the Mould tool or Envelope in the Xara forum, Xara Gallery and the Xara Tips and Tricks you might find some thing or at least some links to the pages you are looking for.
Good luck David and have fun

I created the spaces, then used the envelop tool, rotated and squashed it.

Loose the 3d on the original drawing, group and apply a perpective to the chequer board top. When you have the perpective you require draw in the sides by drawing a rectangle and applying perpective with the tool that lets you drag the shape to your hearts content, (default perpective it's called for some reason). Drag the box to the required shape to form the sides of the board with the correct perpective, you will know which is the correct perpective....it will look right.
Attached example, from scratch 41/2 minuits.
Sorry about the time it took bit. I know it's not a race but I think the faster and more instutive you get with any process, particularly on a computer, then the more natural and lively the end result can be.
derek
