Quite nice using shades of grey... perhaps a little use of other colours (blue or red tones) could cheer up the pages a bit.
I think the top frame occupies too much space. Perhaps it will works nicely if you are going to use pop-up windows for you links.
BTW - are you still programming in LISP?!? Gaaah! I remember the pain, taking a course in lisp ages ago (LISP, acronym for "Lots of Infernal Sequential Processes" or something like that)

I think you have put a lot of time and effort into the design of your site, but I think there is not enough organization. Buttons appear all over the page and (not understanding German--of course) I have no idea why they are that way.
Everything is calling for my immediate attention.
My advice, organize. And do not be afraid of white space (or in this case gray space). You need to leave lots of open space so that the elements have room to breathe.

Even though I do understand german , I have to second what Gary said.
First, even with my rather fast connection it took ages to load due to the vast number of single graphics. It's not so much the filesize, but the number of server-requests that slows things down.
Then, as Gary said, everything called for my attention and I did not really know where to click and why.
I still did not discover what the page is all about ...
Try to put your navigational buttons to one place, let them have the same width or divide them into two sizes, depending on importance.
I like the subtle rollovers though. A little more work and organisation and your site could be a good one !!

Thanks for Your answers! Its been a big help for me because
my own inner "full" feelengs would
let no room for any white (grey) space.
Now - theres no time for me to change it fast but within a
few weeks i`ll alter it to make it much more simple -
and so faster to down-laod.
I plan to split between privat interests and work-abilities at first
Then i will split the Work-area into Building-area (Bau), graphic design (Werbung)
and Webdesign. Every one with an seperate appearing head.
The privat area wont be split..
So it should be much more grey space free, not so much attention catching information.
Download-Time:
it most depends on the used internet-connection - where of corse the normal modem is the slowest, but
the number of needed connections for each single jpg-button picture needs time always.
More little Java-Buttons - More time needet.
I did not have any look at the download-Time, because i wantet to learn the Xara-Button-
abilities in a complex design.
Maybe i shold give a split between a Java version and a version without real Buttons - choosable for
the visitor. But
then it would become a kind of "egg-laying wool-milk-pig"...
What maximum number of Buttons would You prefer?
and
did any one ever try to change the mouse-over - jpgs to gifs with animations?
greetings to You all..

I have not tried this with Xara, but I did do this for a site I created in NetObjects Fusion Aid4Teens
Try out the buttons. The buttons load static but the rollovers are animations.
This should work in Xara. Create your buttons and HTML script. Then create the animation and save it with the same name as the Mouse Over button.

Now i splittet the Top - frame into Work and privat area - and tried to create fly-out-text
at the mouse-over-buttons in the working-area
What do You think now?
But - i see now - not much more grey space...?
ok - the link once more..
