Hi Brad, not quite following you here but my guess is the Aspect ratio lock / Smart transform.

Select your object and right click over the width/height padlock and untick Smart transform.

I just press the ALT key and drag. Someone usually comes up with an 'ahh, but...' when I suggest this, but I never remember why.

Ah yes, back in the dark ages of the early 2019 era.

This is my usual modus operandi - drag > 'damn it' > ctrl+z > ALT+drag

That box doesn't appear when I right click.
Also the "cross hairs" appear at the corners when I unlock the aspect ratio.


I'm beginning to think maybe it has gone corrupt

which version ?

if you are on 15.0 you may be stuck with it - the right click option only came in version 15.1

My computer was stolen so I don't remember what version was on it.
The version I'm running now 15.0.0.52382 DL x64 Dec 1 2017 is what I downloaded from Magix to replace it.

Guess what, the fix came at v15.1.
