Default Darkeren Horizontal Edges of a rectangle graphic

    Hi,

How can I darken the top and bottom edges of a rectangle I create. What I want to do is have the edges slightly darker than the color of the rectangle at the edge and maybe 3/8 of an inch in it would match the color or the rectangle.

    Hopefully I described this.

    Any Suggestions

    Steve

Try a vertical linear fill from top to bottom.
Then double-click 3/8" in from the top and bottom to create two more control points.
Drag dark colour to the outer control points and lighter colour to the inner controls points.

For those with Designer Pro, place a lighter thinner rectangle centred on top.
Then create a 25 Step Blend from the back to the front.

There are bound to be more.

Add a rectangle over the photo and apply a solid color or gray fill.

Create a top to bottom Linear, Multiply transparency (experiment with the color or gray to get the right effect)

Select Repeating. You will probably need to switch the start and end percentage.

Apply a Profile 1 profile to push the dark area closer to the edges.

dependa what you want it for...

maybe a rectangle the size of the lighter area, with an outline of 3/8" coloured appropriately, is all you need

[edit - and if you content with two objects grouped then a smaller lighter rectangle centred on a larger darker one...]

Thank you everyone. Let me try your ideas to see what I get. I'll let you know how I did when I get what I'm looking to do.
