Default Text box aspect ratio annoyance

As I layout a page I'm constantly changing the size of my text boxes. When I do this the text size changes because the aspect ratio defaults to "locked" for a new text box. 99% of the time I just want to adjust the box size without affecting the text properties. I know I can change this with a click but I often forget & end up with stretched text. Its easy enough to fix but annoying.
Is there any way to set the default aspect ratio to "unlocked" for text boxes?

Use the Text Tool for resizing your text boxes.

Maybe I am missing your point but if I create a text area, and the Aspect Ratio is locked, changing the size of the text area does not change the size of the text, it just reflows the text to fit the new text area configuration.

Try dragging a corner of the box

A text box can be treated as an object that is scaled or text when the box alone is adjusted.

With the Select tool, the corners do the scaling and the centres, the resizing.
Shift+Corner, scales keeping the box aligned to its centre point.

Double-click to open the Text tool.
You only have the corners and adjusting these just changes the box dimensions.

    Hope that helps.

I guess my problem was that I was doing the text box resizing after a single click on the object. I see that by double clicking I can avoid the problem of changing text size. If I manipulate the text box after a single click then I have to avoid the corner handles in case the aspect ratio is locked (which seems to be the default). Still, it would be nice to be able to configure the default for that setting to "unlocked".
    Thanks all for your help

The select tool treats objects as just that so when you drag a corner, you scale.
What Xara subsequently did was change the inner controls from a normal stretch option to a containing box resize.

Xara has similarly changed the functions over images in quite a confusing way as it also now depends on the type of document you are editing.
