    Default google verification

    Hello gurus,
    I am confused :-(---- I had a look at previous answers on the forum, still none the wiser.
    The code below is supposed to verify me with google. I have placed it into the index page (HTML code (head).
    Google tells me "We weren't able to verify your property: http://lakebolac.holiday/"

    1. Copy the meta tag below, and paste it into your site's home page. It should go in the <head> section, before the first <body> section.

    <html>
    <head>
    <meta name="google-site-verification" content="5IUoSK1chswJHCD4ep50pnhxHmi1gjlC6LoHarR8y ZE" />
    <title> My title </title>
    </head>
    <body>
    page contents
    </body>
    </html>

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Google should also give you the option of uploading a file? This is the preferred option, saves messing around with your website.
    It will look something like
    google49a848e063b2c.html
    Just upload it to the root folder where your xara htm files go.

    I have done that, the google-site-verification: google461fc2d2cf4dfc2f.html is in the root directory. No joy :-(
    Error 404, page not found.
    Is this google file supposed to be in the ".web" file? that Xara generates? If so, how do I accomplish that?

    It's getting late and my head is sore :-), time for a beer.

    is it in the same folder as index.htm?
    When I say root folder, I mean the root of your website, so depending on your web hosting it may be in the public_html folder or similar but it will be the same place as your index.htm, about.htm etc.

    The code isn't present in your index.htm file:
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EDGE"/>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=Windows-1252"/>
    <meta name="Generator" content="Xara HTML filter v.8.8.0.470"/>
    <meta name="XAR Files" content="index_htm_files/xr_files.txt"/>
    <title>index</title>
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="index_htm_files/xr_fonts.css"/>
    <script><!--
    if(navigator.userAgent.indexOf('MSIE')!=-1 || navigator.userAgent.indexOf('Trident')!=-1){ document.write('<link rel="stylesheet" href="index_htm_files/xr_fontsie.css"/>');}
    --></script>
    <script>document.documentElement.className="xr_bgh 0";</script>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="index_htm_files/highslide.css" />
    <!--[if lt IE 7]><link rel="stylesheet" href="index_htm_files/highslide-ie6.css" /><![endif]-->
    <script src="index_htm_files/highslide.js"></script>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="index_htm_files/xr_main.css"/>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="index_htm_files/xr_text.css"/>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="index_htm_files/custom_styles.css"/>
    <script src="index_htm_files/roe.js"></script>

    Just to help clarify.

    Use the file from google it is the best option. You will have to use a FTP software (not Xara)and place this file in the directory where you upload your site too. What Scupltex is saying is to make sure that this file is in the same directory as the index.htm file. So if you look at the directory path settings you used for uploading in Xara then use the FTP software to move the google file to the same directory.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you Sculptex, RK, Egg B for your help.
    Yes, I was on the wrong track until RK clarified it for me. I have not yet done it, but will do it today and hopefully will have a good outcome.
    Thanks again
    Frank
