    Default Fill a hollow font?

New guy here, both to the forum, and to the program.
I've been through a few tutorials, but can't seem to work this out...

I have some text, and its hollow and I'm trying to fill the inside of it.
But it fills the entire page instead of just inside the text.

I've tried ungrouping, converting it to a shape, but nothing seems to work, it keeps filling the page.

Hoping someone can point out my error...

    Thanks!

It will be tedious. Personally I would just load BrushScript in one of its incarnations and retype it.

All the objects that are lines need to be converted to shapes using the Convert line to shape command. And then broken apart. This will leave you with two objects for each object that was previously a line and only one is the proper one to delete. Then once that is done and all you have are shapes listed in the layer gallery, these shapes that are the counters--the holes in the letter forms such as the 'a', 'o' etc., need to be "joined" to the larger word form (ctrl+j).

It would only take 5 minutes or so...but it takes one second for me to activate BrushScript and a few more to set the text and position/size it.

not in a xara program - that's not how they work - which program are you using?

    Welcome to TalkGraphics

The font is an outline font so all you will be able to fill is the outline.

Text like this was created probably in Adobe which can be outlines and not filled shapes. I have made all these filled shapes.

When you select an object like this and the status bar shows Line this means it is not a filled shape. Select the object then switch to the Shape Tool (F4) and press Tab. This will highlight the two end points of the line. Drag one of the control points away and then back until the cursor changes to a +. The the status line should show Shape which can now be filled.

ah so the OP is actually creating a coloured page/pasteboard background when they try to fill what is not text...ok

it's easy to tell if something is text, you can edit it with the text tool

alternatively you can look on the status line [bar] as mentioned....

I guess if it came from adobe it was converted to curves or similar....

Alright, noob error lol, but even so, I didn't expect it to be that difficult.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
I've only been playing with the software for an hour or so... I'll get it.
I had the original text done in Vectric Aspire. And thought this software
would be great for the new little laser machine I just picked up.
I thought a two-tone text would be nice.

This method seems to work for a single word like I showed above bit NOT for an entire sentence . Well I did do it but it's way too fiddly. Click image for larger version.

    NOT RECOMMENDED.

Tried it again using a single word different font. This was also very fiddly. STILL NOT RECOMMENDED

    um...
This is the way I did it:
I wrote out my text in the outline font (Lulo Outline). Then I created a shape (rectangle) and put it behind the text. Then I used my trusty eraser tool and erased the shape that was on the outside of the text.....and TA DAA! (Whom am I kidding. This takes way too much time to do.) Maybe it's just easier with test that is NOT in outline form!
