I need to import an Adobe Illustrator file 315kb into CD9 on Win2K. Chose Importing as AI/default. It comes up as "error/restart Corel".

I have Conversions Plus, AI file extentions aren't supported.(why did I buy it then???)

Corel fourms/import=
Try changing the extension to EPS and using PS Interpreter filter to import.
It may work. Michael Cervantes C-Tech Volunteer

Is there a Corel site anywhere that walks you through these steps...step by step???

Thanks for any Help! - KH

I tried to rename = "can't rename: There has been a sharing violation. The
source or destination may be in use."
______
I am a hidden manufacturer, so I can't get to the "file maker" or designer,
or find out what version of AI, nor the OS.
Salesmen won't go back to their customer, who already has the file on disk.

When you deal with purchasing agents in corporations & sales people they
don't want to hear that you can't open the file.
That means you aren't savvy

Karen
& they want to go to another manufacturer who CAN get it done without
"re-doing" anything. As a printer...I must get over the brick wall by
myself.
_____
I bought Conv + to convert all kinds MAC files to PC, not noticing no AI was
available. I believed the commercial spin.

Karen,

What if you try "opening" the problem file rather than "importing"?

Have you configured Corel so that *.AI files are part of your active filters list?

Good luck!

Karen,
I have CorelDRAW 9.0 and Conversions Plus V 4 on Win95 and import .AI files every day.
You probably were not allowed to change the file extension because the file was considered to be "open" somewhere.
Conversions plus doesn't convert most files it simply allows you to read the disk, try combinations of "opening" & "importing" using different filters & file extensions.
If all else fails I'll try to open it for you.

What luck, Karen? I am running Win2k, CorelDRAW 9, also AI 8.

Have you tried file import, select file, then select AI-Adobe Illustrator. If it doesn't work, try file import, select file, then select PS,PRN, EPS-Postscript Interpreted. Usually works, but some AI files will open on my machine with Illustrator but not Corel. Sometimes repairable but some have stumped me.

Conversions plus is great, but it doesn't convert much unless you are running office type programs.

Send me a file if you wish. What are the limits in this forum for attaching a file?

Thanks everyone...I found a work around. Customer also supplied a tif of logo on the same disk. I cheated & re-produced the type.
No time to wait, I'm the typical production artist...wait till you have no time left.
The job printed great. whew!

All this info is great I'm printing it off for the next "near" tragic, hystrical, emergency room visit.
