A short while back, I needed to draw a Gold and a Silver medal.
So, I drew a representation of the medals being used at the Sochi games.
Whilst the medals are not accurate, they served my purpose.
I did the Gold medal.
And then I needed to do a Solver one.
So, I wondered if there was another way of doing this in Xara?!
Something a bit easier than having to change all the colours, and the all shading, and all the... well, you know!
Here's what I did:
For the Silver medal:
1. I cloned the Gold medal (not the ribbon) and grouped it. Changed the colour of the grouped medal to #955803.
2. Used the Live Effects tool and applied the 'Hue' effect from the 'Colour Filter' - set the 'Saturation' value down to -80.
3. Drew a circle of the same size as the medal. Coloured it light blue (I set the value #83b7ff).
4. Applied a 'Hue' transparency to this circle and turned the transparency down a bit to a value of 11%
Then for the Bronze, it was nearly the same process:
1. I cloned the Gold medal (not the ribbon) and grouped it. Changed the colour of the grouped medal to #ac7a06.
2. Used the Live Effects tool and applied the 'Hue' effect from the 'Colour Filter' - set the 'Saturation' value down to -42.
3. Drew a circle of the same size as the medal. Coloured it light pink (I set the value #ffcbcb).
4. Applied a 'Stained Glass' transparency to this circle.
I hope you will agree that the results are pretty convincing.
And I had fun along the way.
