Hi, Welcome.
Create the image you want to use as an icon, right click on it, click 'names' then add the name 'favicon' into the 'apply name' field, then click 'add' and then 'close' when your website is uploaded to your server xara automatically creates a favicon.icon file for you and that's it!

Consider that those icons are kind of being phased out. If you have a website now you will need what is called tiles. Here is a site that helps make them for you. http://www.buildmypinnedsite.com/en
They're not phased out on tabs for web pages in browsers and will not be as long as web pages exist. Tiles are for accessing apps and the web, different thing. Tiles are like the icons on a desktop.

If you DO want a tile [in Xara version 9 products]:-
Instead of naming your image favicon name it tileicon and put it on the pasteboard out of the way and Xara works its magic!
In fact, you can use both names on the same image if required

Hah, learned something new again! Thanks. I looked it up in the help file and this is what it says:
Tileicons & Favicons. v9 improves Favicon support for Internet Explorer producing anti-aliased alpha-channel favicon images. In addition if you apply the name 'tileicon' to the same graphic it will export a much larger (144px square) version of the favicon that both Windows 8 Internet Explorer 10 and iOS devices will use when you add or 'pin' the website to the home screen.

Keep in mind, you will need several sizes of tileicons if you want them to look good.
