Hi... new with photoshop.... (hope this makes sense)

I have created an image in corel knowckout, and saved it as a PSD file.... in Corel KnockOut, a mask is generated and stored in an alpha channel. How do you edit the mask that is in a seperate channel? I want to add a new background.... I can't just add a new layer and put it in, otherwise I get Halo's...

    Hi dk

You can edit the alpha layer like any greyscale image. (it is only 8 bits of info and therefore only greyscale). Just select this channel in the channels palette to make it the active channel. Most of the filters will work and the levels and curves will work too. You can also paint directly in the channel with white grey or black paint.

    Hope this helps,
