Default Glows - Advanced Image Retouching 2013

Note from Admin: This discussion was mixed in with other discussions on the Xara Xone forum, from Interweaving vines with 3D text which was in turn split off from January 2013 Video Tutorial - Working With Live Effects. All of these threads do have a relationship to each other in that they were the product of a flow of ideas that arise when artists get together to learn.

I hate it when I or a fellow member continues to beat their head against the same wall.

Therefore, I'm offering up a new wall.

Most of this was done with Blend steps. The outer glow was created mostly with th shadow tol, but the base of the cone's glow wasn't intense enough by doing this, so I copied the base, chose Arrange>Converts Line to Shape, and then used the Contour tool to make the result shape fatter. I then simplified (convert to editable Shapes), separated out the outermost contour, and then feathered it to produce a glow.

I'm only bringing this up because 1.) It's almost Spring so the ice cream stands should open soon.

...and I think I'm going to devote the March video tutorial to creating neon, glows and shadows.

    Wot think you all?

Oh, and there is a Popsicle® and another soft serve as outlines in the attached document, waiting your completion of them.

    My Best,

    Gare

Looks like a great subject for a tutorial and I have downloaded and will try to dream up something.ith
IMHO: This is some neat stuff.

BTW: If you look at my latest avatar, I used some stuff you sent in another post and I used the combined shape stuff we have been messing with. Not I am 100% satisfied but like it better than what I had. I am thinking I may eliminate all of the background stuff and just use the initials.

    Dave, take your time!

Surely you can learn more from my example in the file, no?

Play with this stuff. Nice use of colors, but does the neon look like neon, and can you increase the back-lighting glow more?

Let it come to you, man.

Don't force it, and the force will then be with you. it will.

Yep, I thought I did that too fast

I will slow down. In fact, might be a couple of days before I can post again. I do think it is a good topic for a tutorial though.

I had a go at it too. I think it looks pretty good, but not near as good as yours. I could use the tutorial too!
