Default Microsoft .NET Framework 4 - problem

    1. What is it?
    2. Do I need it?
    3. If not needed, how can you stop the constant updates, every time I start my Laptop?

I have NEVER had this many updates. EVER.

I had to install 'Microsoft .NET Framework 4' because I tried Microsoft Expression 4 and the installation said that I also needed to install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.
Having installed both these, I then decided to un-install both.

But, since then, all I get are the constant updates to Microsoft .NET Framework 4.

    It's safe, Rik
.NET 3.5 is actually installed with Windows 7.

This link should help answer your other questions..

If I look for installed programmes, Microsoft .NET Framework 4 is not installed and yet I keep getting constant updates.
Even when Microsoft .NET Framework 4 was installed, I kept getting updates... and kept getting updates.

Thanks for the link, Steve, and I shall have read as see what it tells me.

You could always try a system restore back to the day before you installed ME4?

Yup! That was the first thing I tried.
The restore options only went back as far as two days ago. And not when I installed Expression Design 4 and .NET Framework 4.

.NET Framework 4.5 appears to be available and I might try installing that.

Rik, the .NET framework is a pre-built set of code that people who write software can call without having to write it all for themselves. So technically, if you are asked to install it when you install a program(me), it is the program(me)s author who is to blame for using the .NET framework!

Therefore, you only need it if you install something that itself needs it to run.

My guess is you've messed up Windows a little by removing it - but Update still thinks it's there, when obviously it isn't.

Your best bet is to reinstall it and leave it alone. Like Sledger said, you have an older version of .NET installed anyway, so it makes sense to stay fully updated.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

It was because I was getting constant updates (and they appeared to be the same updates), that I decided to uninstall Expression Design 4 and .NET Framework 4.
Then, it was still trying to install the same apparent updates.
That's why I decided to post here and ask for help.

Anyway. I've installed .NET Framework 4.5 and all seems to be OK at the moment.
I've done many restarts and manually checked for Windows updates and (fingers crossed), no problems so far!

    Thanks, once again.
