    Default Folders, Subfolders & SEO

There's a lot of threads about breaking large sites into folders & its a good solution. Inevitably though the top folder (esp if it's only a single pg) doesn't have the same amount of content as the folders beneath so the pages within the folders below are ranking higher in the search engines. I was just wondering if anyone else has also experienced this and would be interested to hear thoughts on solutions / suggestions.

    Hi Megg

Sounds like things are working like they should. Pages are ranked individually by keyword and your visitors are being directed to your most relevant content. Your top folder/pages could be targeted at more general terms but there may be more competition there.

it really depends on what people are searching for at drwyd says if a person searches for 'a' and it is present in a sub-folder of a sub-folder that is where they will be directed, if they the keyword is in the index page in the root directory then that is where they will be directed. sub folders or sub domains make no difference as long as all pages have been indexed.
