What fun, Phil!
Here's a whack at modifying the design...
Read Phil's instructions in the file, the file is version 8 specific so don't try working with it in 6 or something, and first, unlock all the layers before you have fun.
Thanks, Phil!

Thanks for pointing that out, Steve.
It's hard to keep track of what versions introduced which new features.
My Best,
Gary
Here's a slightly revised version. Everything's technically the same but I've corrected the text and improved the pattern.
Auto-Tiler 2.xar
This is a bit like a simplified/stylised William Morris wallpaper pattern...

The idea of using Live Copies for patter-making is a fascinating one, Phil.
It got me to thinking this afternoon about textile work, so I began working on an argyle pattern. surely, variations on a single, well-designed argyle pattern would have a lot of commercial purposes.
I've attached it if anyone would like to play with it and improve upon it.
I have an idea for that Argyle pattern Gary in the meantime here is another powerful long time Xara feature at work in a seamless tile... Named Colours
This tile took a lot of fiddling to get the look I was after. Again I recycled bits and pieces from drawings I already had, and the drawings were done with named colours so many elements in this tile are easily colour changeable. The .xar has two green rectangles with the noise filter applied. To create a new tile from this click between the rose canes to select the smaller one and create your bitmap copy or export from there. If you make any adjustments to the noise filter on one of the rectangles you must make the same adjustments on the other to avoid seams.

Brill Gary learn't something new, which is always nice!.
Attached a 'pretty' flutterby thingy. Knocked up the vector, converted to bitmap then changed the light contones to get the different colours. Added transparrency at 70%.
Plus a banana man:

banana_man.xar

Lovely work. Would you like one or both pieces included in a Giveaway bundle I'm going to assemble?
BTW, "knocked up" means something different than you intended here in the U.S. The gentler euphemism for "knocked up" here is "in a family way".
My Best,
Gary
