    Hey Joolz,
IŽam not so an expert, but i would say if you want to draw Metal effect, just draw your shapes and blend them together. you have two methods to blend shapes together.
#1 use the blend tool to blend between 2 shapes in lineal fill.
#2 use the transparency tool to blend one shape in the other shapes.
However Metal colours will be somthing like Black, gray shade and white colours.
Please see attached, i did this one and i think i can say that is Metal effect.
    Hope that help you.
    Best regards
    BP

If you go to the Design Gallery, in DP7 (I'm sure it is in DP6 as well) and then look in Example Xara Drawing 1, you will find a file called 'metallix.xar'

I have attached this file for you anyway.

Open it up, ungroup the drawing and see how the effect was achieved.
    It's very good indeed.

Thanks for that Rik, That should prove useful. Looks like you and I had similar ideas on how to go about it.

Just wanted to say a big thanks and feed back somewhat....

In the end I went my 'own way' lol ........... I'm an Engineer and not a graphic artist (unfortunately)

    soooooooooooooooooo

After a bit of lateral thinking the solution presented itself...

I printed and cut round a paper version of the background area... transfered it to Aluminium foil

Then shaped the foil to achieve the look I wanted...

    Photographed it in hi res

Into Xara and combined with the vector (that took me hours n hours to create by hand)

Printed on vinyl and now on my car.... exactly the look I wanted

Just to add again .... this is very much a 'one off' for personal use only

    Thanks again

    Julian

Great solution to your problem Julian.
I understant the "that took me hours n hours to create". What matters in the long run is that you knew what you wanted to achieve and were persistant enough to do it. I'll bet you learned alot also, in more ways then one.
