When I need to do something like this, I use the Shape Editor Tool F4 to outline the object, then Ctrl+A and Ctrl+3 and export what is left over as a .png. :-)

I use Paint Shop Pro and Xara side by side when making graphics (for a group I belong to) and often need objects on a transparent background.
Xara gives a much better finish than anything I do in PSP and it's a lot quicker.

PSP does not have a magic eraser, so it will be slow

PSP has a Background Eraser, which is very good.
Or I can use the GML Matting plugin, but prefer to do this in Xara for a crisp clean finish :-)

Thanks Steve and Grenou. Very helpful and very basic to lots of graphics work.

    Hi Grenou

I know the GML Matting plugin [and BTW it works in xara designer too], not a one-click solution, but a good tool for the job it does

Go to your xara program folder mine is c/Xara/Xara_Designer_Pro_6/Xara Picture Editor/PSplug-ins just put the eraserclassic.8bf in there and you are all set. So the next time you start the program and go to live effects/medhi eraser clasic will show up.

    Alternatively:
While in live effects there is a setup button which accesses options menu and if you already have plugins somewhere else and want Xara to use those this is where you tell it where they are. Either method works.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.
