Win 7 Upgradeor New Machine

I have Vista on an HP laptop. Has all the bells and whistles, fully updated, plenty of memory and hardware. Has anyone upgraded from Vista SP2 to Windows 7? I know upgrades are always a little dicey but I would like to avoid buying a new machine and all the tedious work of reinstalling/configuring everything.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Dan,

I upgraded my Dell laptop from Vista to Windows 7. The only issue was with the CD drive, it required a firmware update to work with Win7. The update was available on the drive manufacturer's website.

I went the other way and went from Vista back to XP on my Dell laptop. Still have not ventured into Windows 7. Right now my machines are stable and rockin', and I'm not gonna rock the boat!

I would go with the upgrade. Win 7 is far better than vista.

Buying another machine to avoid upgrading is a little extreme, but I know where you're coming from.
