Inspired by a conversation with Gary, and reminded of it by a recent thread, I spent a bit more time on this image, and quite liked this skeletal variation. It is based on the globe built from a number of rings, except I left a hole in it.

Maybe it is a prototype for a Bionic Eye.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.
Thanks for the kind words. How does the toast go? Here's looking at you!
This one is the same x3d file, I just increased the extrusion depth to fill the gaps, but one trick I used was to type CTRL-A in the main screen, then set the Fit to width field to 400%. As I have pointed out in previous posts, this magnifies the x- and y-axes, but not the z-axis, which is the axis that extrusions expand along. Objects therefore look thinner, because they have only 25% of the extrusions they had before, relative to their other dimensions.
This means that to get the same appearance, you need four times the extrusion value, which in turn means you get four times better extrusion resolution, and thus finer control.

Love the first one, excellent effect
