I just started experimenting with creating custom brushes. Being pretty familiar with Xara X, I had a blast and got some great results! Unfortunately, every time I sign out of Xara X, the great brushes that I saved disappear, gone forever! Snarl hiss, hiss snarl! What to do, what to do! Any help. I am attaching a fun drawing I did with a custom brush.

    Hi Dave,
If you save your XAR file containing the brush you created in the following directory it will be available each time you open Xara X1.

    program files/xara/xara x1/templates/brushes

    Hope this helps.

    Ed,

It doesn't look like it gives me an option on where to save the brush to.

I saved it to that location, but it still didn't come up with the brushes after I reopened Xara X1. Ponder ponder.

the best way i found out from everyone here is to make a folder on your c drive or whatever drive name it brushes and then just save the xar file to that folder, then go to your clipart icon and click on disc fills. find the brushes flder and add it,

If the brushes are in a different folder you need to open the file containing the brushes for them to be available.

Found this post in the "swap shop - brushes" section of TalkGraphics

"Like a brush so much that you want to use it again and again? Then add it to your brush palette. To do so:
    1. In a new document, create the new brush (or grab one from this forum).

    2. Apply the brush to a line.

    3. Save the document to the brushes folder.

brushes is a sub-folder within the templates folder. This folder is located in the same directory as your xara.exe

Don't have a clue what I'm talking about? Then check out 'Creating new default brushes' in the Xara X Help files."

Am I wrong to say don't put to many brushes but only the frequently used ones there because it takes mutch longer to start XaraX1?

That's why I always do it that way.
You can look in the explorer for a quick search wich one you want.

I am sorry about my English, but I hope you can understand it (long live the dictionary)

You are right Coby - if you put too many brush templates into the brushes folder it will slow Xara down. Much better to keep them elsewhere and open as needed.
