I have extracted part of a photo (JPG) and exported it as a GIF. The tranasparent wineglass was selected, but it seems that the GIF BG is still white. I would swear I've done this successfully before, but I can't seem to do it now.

look at the first few colors in the palette - top left - if you have selected the 'make background transparent' wineglass then the first white will be set to transparent
if there is more than one white, then select the next one, then click on the 'make selected color transparent' glass [the one to the right of 'make background transparent'], then hit preview
- repeat as necessary until the background clears
hope that makes sense

handrawn, my original background is white. When I hit preview, how do I know if the BG is cleared?
Charlie
Use the GIF Preview feature on the chequered background
If someone tried to make me dig my own grave I would say No.

hi charlie
I'm assuming you are using the gif export dialog box, as you mentioned 'wineglass' - so if you hit preview in this dialog box the left hand pane should show you if its worked - you may need to click 'zoom to fit' button [between the panes] to see whole image

Thanks, handrawn, I finally got it.
Charlie
always glad to help
