I had exactly the same issue with no thumbnails displaying after installing Designer Pro and I'm running Windows 7 32bit.
I think what is happening for the people who have it working is that they have other Xara products installed. If you uninstall all Xara products and then install DP 6 there are no thumbnails.
Fortunately the fix is very easy.
The XarThumb.dll file appears to have moved location from previous versions and is not being registered properly on installation.
Enter
regsvr32 "c:\program files\xara\xara_designer_pro_6\xaradlls\xarthumb.d ll"
in the Run box on the start menu or from a command shell and all will be well.
Not sure why a space keeps appearing in the dll above but it shouldn't be there.
Here's what to type for Windows 7 64-bit:
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Xara\Xara_Designer_Pro_6\XaraDLLs\XarThumb64 .dll" (remove space between 64 and .dll)

The PGD6 CDs arrived yesterday, the DP6 CDs arrived today.

I received my PGD6 discs as well. However, I have had a very bid disappointment. I tried installing them on my laptop where I had previously had the trial version of PD6 installed. It seemed like the installation went pretty good. But, then when I started the application, it loaded the last xar file I had worked on and immeditaley gave me an error stating that there was an exception with Microsoft Visual C++. When I clicked to close the message box, the application immediately closed down. There did not seem to be any other alternative.
I then tried both repairing as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the software and still get the same results. It appears that the application starts fine but when it encounters the previous xar file, it returns the error. There does not seem to be a way to get it to start without loading the previous xar file.
When I get home tonight (the software is on my personal laptop, not my work one). I think I will go delete the xar file that is loading and see if that helps.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
Did you uninstall the trial version before installing from the CD?
It appears that the trial was not successfully removed before the CD version was installed. Some registry settings seem to be held over from the trial.

I have also posted on the Runtime Error thread. I am beginning to believe this may be more of a Vista problem than anything else.
Yes, I forgot to mention that I was running Vista.
Well, at first I just installed, then I did an uninstall, then I reinstalled after the uninstall.
Do you have any add on software that may be preventing updates to the registry?
Your Antivirus, or other security software?
