My attempt at animating the planet Earth
My attempt at animating the planet Earth
Not too bad. Though the world looks flat and not round.
Ron Duke obsessed on this a few years ago and did a very credible spinning world. Try doing a search in the Xara Art Gallery forum to see how Ron did it. It might give you some ideas how to proceed.

Thanks I'll have a look and see if I can improve it.
Hi xtom. I tweak your file a little bit. I removed everything on the outside of your clipview. I shaded the rear circle for your clipview to look like a sphere. I made the white portion of your map transparent and the dark portion I changed to a light blue. I put a black circle on top of the map with a circular transparency. Lastly, I tipped the map so it is going down and across at the same time.
If you like this affect, I can help you.
Paul
Here's another interesting effect that you can do just by reversing the map and changing the color. or you can put something inside as shown in the second animation.

Thanks paul, it's good to see some ideas and variations.
I've just been scanning through some old threads and found this one. There is a weird optical effect here. Look directly at the single globe and it looks flat (because the continents don't distort as they get near the edge) ... but ... look away from the image and your peripheral vision turns it into a globe. Weird or what?
