That's it, though I've just noticed what you meant by flat, in that it has a lighter colour running through the middle. I'm guessing where it was enlarged via width taking down quality.
these are the steps I suggest:
open your dark blue image and sample one end with the eyedroppertool [color picker] as the forground color, and the other end as the background color
open your other image and select your large light blue areas with the magic wand tool
apply a foreground to background gradient with the gradient tool
can't try this in CS4 at present - but it worked in elements 2

Thank you! Thank you!
Perfect, worked a treat and so much easier than trying to overlay and trim round it.
Thanks so much, I owe you a drink!
its a pleasure
[and as the nice Mr Darling has just slapped 10% on cider I might just take you up on the offer... ]

Awesome Steve! Thanks for helping Olivia out. It sounds real easy to do the recoloring using the tools in Photoshop. Once you know how, that is.
Olivia, you may want to watch a few Photoshop tutorials on YouTube, pick up an introductory Photoshop book, or take an entry level Photoshop course at a local community college to quickly further your graphic skills along.
Glad it worked out for you,
Harry
Thanks Harry, I always try and find tutorials when stuck and thanks to Steve, that is another trick I can check off the list.
Thanks for your help again (for now a cyber Cider heading your way from me)
