help me in "the indesign effects book"

i'va started learning indesign with "The InDesign Effects Book" which is for cs2 version.

i'm in chapter one section "snapshot frames".

i can make curves easily an change them to single path but in page 24 for gradient the pathes i have problems.

i can't understand that. please help me to solve this. thanks.

Try reposting this post in the Illustrator section, as I think that In Design is closer to Illustrator in the way that it works, more than Photoshop, someone there may be able to help.
