Default Internal Program Error: Pasting text across linked text areas.

Pasting unformatted text from Word 2010 into linked text boxes overwriting selected text already there give this error dialogue box:

    [Error from Xara Xtreme Pro]
    Internal program error 4237.k.no.xt
    [OK]

Click [OK] and nothing scary happens. Tried again - repeatable. Quit program, blank design, tried again, same thing.

    To repeat:
    New document
    Draw 2 text areas
Copy text from Word such that one area overflows
Link text areas and delete enough text such that it fits in the two boxes
Select text in both boxes and Ctrl+V
    Error!

    Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.0.8917 DL

Remember Word 2010 is in Beta, so this may not even be a Xara bug you are running across.
No crash here following your steps and using Word 2007 / Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.0.8917 DL

Can you tell us a little about your PC?

My PC is has an Intel celeron running XP with 1gb ram.

Of course I know Word 2010 is beta however, since it is as stable as and quicker than most other apps I use, and since it still contains many of the core idiosyncrasies (shall we say) of Word 2007 I'm confident that isn't a factor. However, I will endeavour to eliminate that variable and report.

    Thanks for trying to repeat.

I should say that I've been pasting into Xara for several weeks (from 2010) working on the same project but only now, pasting across linked text areas have I had any issues.

    Hi again.

Ok I've managed to repeat using Word Pad.

I've attached an RTF with some formatting in a zip. I'd be grateful if you open the enclosed file into word pad then cut and paste into linked text areas in Xara.

Hmm - no problems at all I'm afraid.
I tried with or without the table.

One thing did come to mind, you don't happen to have any hidden layers in your default template with some scripts you use often do you?

    No, no hidden layers.

I tried it with and without tables too and got the same my end. The image is taken after I pasted into the file you posted.

I guess it's time to leave this alone. It's in the system if anyone comes across it again (which seems unlikely) and it's not affecting my work-flow too much since I'm not doing DTP type work.

Incidentally, I have this other issue with Xara which I've been rather reluctant to post about since, even with lots of searching in the forums, I haven't heard of anyone else experiencing this. When resizing, rotating, moving any object or text, sometimes (but not every time) a copy of the object is made. Steve, as a moderator, do you think I should raise this?

Hmm - I wonder if that's a mouse driver or mouse hardware issues that's creating a duplicate?

Certainly you could open a new Dear Xara thread and detail this.

this can happen to me if I inadvertently brush/right-click the mouse with a stray finger - oh how I wish 'helpful' features like this were optional ...
