Hello Clive, welcome to the forum. Good to find someone older than me, I think that makes at least three who are to my knowledge!:
To answer your question, I need to ask one. Do you want the result to be photorealistic, or are you happy to have the animation "cartoony" for want of a better word.
EDIT:
My attachment shows what I mean by cartoony. The colours are all wrong, but it's just an example. It would take only a few frames, making the flash appear, then disappear, and lightening the background around the camera whilst doing so. Not sure if the afterimage would be wealthy in the brain as in real life, though!
So I'd say it was possible with Xara Xtreme.
Saludos,
Bob.

Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. Groucho Marx.

Hi Clive,
Sit back and relax then watch a couple of Videos showing you the basics of flash animation using Xara Xtreme.
It's for folks like yourself that all these resources are made available.

I'd also recommend browsing through the many many workbooks at Gary's XaraXone. You're bound to pick up some tricks relating to flash animation there
