Default Image file size drastically increases on import

Does anyone else have this problem?

I import a png file that is about 100k, and once it is imported into the bitmap gallery, the file size jumps to over 3mb. This has happened on dozens of graphics that I've imported.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Cleverly

    Hi Cleverly,

PNG files are compressed (to save HDD space)
What you are seeing in the bitmap gallery is the size in memory because it is unpacked and stored in the Gallery as a uncompressed Standard Bitmap.
    Saving 'repacks' it.

I'm thinking that these are what is causing my out of memory error when I try to export. I'll just resave these as JPEGs and reimport I guess.

Thanks for the reply, I did not know that.

Well, I deleted the large files out of my web file, and it is still 22 megs large.
Of course, it is a 90 page website. Is that even possible in web designer?

Of course, very possible - and larger if you wish

You might like to try optimizing many of your images (right-click>> Optimize) and have XWD export them as .jpg for your site. (Web Properties>>Image>>Web Image Type: choose JPG and the quality level)

Default OK, i deleted all my bitmaps, still no export

I've been getting out of memory errors. I assumed it was the sizes and number of graphics, so I optimized all of them, still no export. Finally I decided to delete all bitmaps, and still I get the out of memory error.
The file is down to 8 megs.

    Any ideas?

Can you give us some specifications of your hardware?
    CPU type, installed RAM etc.
Which AV is running and other software running at the time.

Is the .web file 8mb when saved?
How many pages are you working with?

I have merged your last post with this thread as it is directly related.

    Thanks again for the response.

Well, I removed some photos averaging around 150k that were in my product pages and now it exports fine. I'm going to make a seperate web file and a link from my pages called photo gallery, which will hopefully be a useful workaround.

To answer your questions, I run windows vista with an AMD Turion 64 x2 1.9ghz processor, 4 gigs of ram. I use the ESET antivirus program, and my web file has 81 pages.

    Thanks for the update

Is that 32bit Vista or 64bit?

    Is it a TOSHIBA latop?
